This might seem a strange thing to remember but I can recall Rio Ferdinand making the same mantlepiece instead of mantle rickett about ten years ago. It must be a Man Utd thing.

A lot of the men co commentators are just as bad but at least when they get excitable they don't end up piercing your ears like a small child screaming (bar Gary Neville of course!)
Probably biased but always thought Tong Gale was a decent co commentator but I only ever seem to hear him on a stream somewhere rather than mainstream live. Remember his saying one of the first things he was taught was when to say something and when to say nothing but Carney was constant with her clichés so much I would have preferred Michael Owen putting me to sleep!!
Actually re Neville there is a really good documentary on BT now on You Tube where he visits Qatar re the World Cup. Jesus the workers are treated like shit out there.

^ further to that I would expect a professional to take some sort of voice coaching to at least try and make their voice a bit listener friendly - they must get paid enough so it’s the least they can do

Totally agree. I had to turn the sound down towards the end which is annoying as you miss the crowd noise.
I welcome female commentators but why employ ones with such shrieky voices? I think it’s patronising

Carney is just starting out so cut her some slack...there is plenty of room for improvement
Gary Lineker wasn't always the smooth anchorman he is today. In the early days his awkwardness and lack of confidence was painful to watch...he loosened up after They Think It's All Over when he learnt to relax and laugh at himself. He had no choice with Lee Hurst constantly mentioning his gammy toe.

The fact is the BBC don't have any live commentators at the matches it's all done in the studio.
Shearer and his ilk tell them what to say.

Oh god it was painful. I thought commentators were selected firstly for their tone of voice which should be audibly pleasant and their knowledge of the players / the game.
She has neither. Why the hell do we have to listen to her shrieking. Her voice is like having your ears massaged with a cheese grater. And she is just full of cliched old crap.
Nobody would care that she was a woman if she was nice to listen to and demonstrated some understanding of the game. If she was a bloke she would be told to get lost.

might as well get someone from our U16 team to do it, they have about the same experience of PL football.
